Georgia on my Mind

Conference on College Composition and Communication Atlanta 2011

Leaving Wednesday and presenting Friday, I'm excited for this week. I know I've posted this announcement before, but I can't help but think it's fitting to re-post.

2011 CCCC Convention Program is Online

2011 Cs ATL Program
It's always a good idea to search the online program before going to Cs. It cuts down on the overwhelming sense of there always being too much to see, too many great speakers to meet and events to attend. (Cruz Medina on pages 8, 67 and 248!)

Researching the Controversy Analysis

More Pedagogical Praxis with Technology
So I'm interested in the intersections of race and technology, especially with regard to Latinas/os and technology. Here is yet another example of something I will use in class. My avatar looks strangely like my father, but the accents are a dig at the assumption that British accents are somehow reifications of education and an ideal for Others to fall short of.

Literacy Archive On-line

Digital Archive of Literacy Narratives

While I was at 4Cs in Louisville, Kentucky, I had the opportunity to take part in a digital literacy archive project put together by the Ohio State.
A description of DALN from the website:

"The DALN invites people of all ages, races, communities, backgrounds, and interests to contribute stories about how — and in what circumstances — they read, write, and compose meaning, and how they learned to do so (or helped others learn)."

I did mine on a computer's webcam, so I imagine you might be able to do the same & I encourage anyone to register and submit. It's a really interesting project and something that's designed to be used in classrooms, as a part of helping students to understand that the acquisition of literacy varies.

Cs 2010 Online Program

Search-able Program

Just checked out this year's CCCC program on-line, and I like the move they made with the cover design--not what you might expect.

Found my name a couple times in the program, so I'm getting excited.

I'm honored to be a Scholar for the Dream recipient, so now I just have to make sure my presentation is extra, extra ready.

I'm off to the Cs conference in San Francisco bright and early tomorrow. Excited for a workshop tomorrow fascilitated by another PhD candidate in RCTE, Aja Martinez (soon to be featured in College English, or is it the Cs Journal?) and UA professor Damian Baca.
